ONLY Residents of New York City, Suffolk, Westchester, and Nassau Counties– even if they already have a pistol license, must take this the required 16 hour class to renew their NY State pistol license or to upgrade from a Premise License to a Concealed Carry License. For everyone that lives outside of the NYC, LI and Westchester area, you need to rectify, you do NOT need to take a class to do so. The NY State Police have posted the “NY State Pistol License Recertification” forms on their web site. See links below to get directly to the NYSP Renewal pages.

Here you will find the application process and FAQ about this new process, Current Pistol Permit Holders will start receiving a mailer from the NY State Police about the process.

The application must be submitted prior to January 31st of 2018.

Pistol/Revolver License Recertifications are currently only required for those permits originally issued before January 15, 2013. If your permit was issued before January 15, 2013, the deadline to submit your recertification is January 31, 2018. If your permit was issued after January 15, 2013, you have 5 years from date of issue to renew.
